Best of the Bunch
No-fuss convenience meals can save your neck when your family dinner
hour looks more like 15 minutes. And what kid wouldn’t be
happy with mac & cheese, chicken nuggets, or a hot dog and French
fries for dinner? But here’s the catch: Not only are many
frozen and boxed meals high in sodium, saturated fat, and trans
fats, they also contain a long list of ingredients that most of
us would be hard pressed to pronounce. Many are also nutritional
lightweights … providing little in the way of fiber, vitamins,
minerals, and all those other powerful plant nutrients found in
such things as fruits, vegetables and whole grains.
The way we see it, if someone else is doing the cooking for you,
it’s important to know what you’re getting. But it takes
time to read and decipher all those food labels and to taste every
product to be sure the kids will even like it. So we’ve done
the homework for you by evaluating some of the most popular kid
convenience foods and by selecting the best tasting and most nutritious
products out there.
