A Message from The Moms: $200 Grilling Gift Basket

We hope everyone is having a fun summer. As usual, we’ve been hard at work on new kid-friendly recipes, podcast shows, and blog posts. But even The Meal Makeover Moms need a break! Janice and her family are planning a trip to Washington, DC to tour a bunch of college campuses with Carolyn (can you believe she was only 11 when our first book was written?) and Liz is heading to the beaches of Cape Cod for a bit of R&R.

Before we pack our bags though, we’re offering one lucky Moms’ Club member a grilling gift basket valued at $200.00! This delicious giveaway includes a $100.00 gift certificate for Omaha Steaks, a copy of The Healthy Beef Cookbook, and a set of grilling tools, compliments of our friends at The Beef Checkoff. To enter, all you have to do is visit our blog and post a comment about your favorite summer grilling recipe or tip. Another easy way to enter is to forward this newsletter to a friend. Every time you forward the newsletter, your name will be entered an additional time. There’s no limit, so if you have 100 friends, go for it! By the way, the Forward to a Friend button is located in the top, right-hand corner of this newsletter. We’ll announce the winner on July 31st.

On a final note, we would like to send out a huge “thank you” to the over 400 moms who took our online survey last month. Many of you volunteered to be “recipe testers” for our next book and shared your best-ever tips for getting kids to try healthy foods without complaint. You’ll be hearing from us soon (some of you this month … others later this summer) with your recipe assignments. It’s not too late to take the survey, so feel free to head on over to Survey Monkey when you get a chance. By the way, Lisa G., a mom of three from Marana, Arizona was the winner of our survey giveaway. She’s now the proud owner of a Meal Makeover Moms’ apron and tote bag and a signed copy of our first book.

We’ll be back in touch next month with news on our upcoming giveaway. Happy summer!

Makeover Recipe

Watermelon Pomegranate Pops
Makes 4 Servings

One cup of super-premium ice cream can have over a day’s worth of saturated fat (that’s the kind that can raise cholesterol levels). For all you ice-cream lovers out there, try this naturally sweet, fruit-based frozen pop instead. It’s super easy to make, a good source of nutrients and antioxidants, and the taste can’t be beat.

1 ½ cups cubed seedless watermelon
1/2 cup pomegranate blueberry juice *

1. Combine the watermelon and juice in a blender and blend until smooth. Pour into four 3-ounce popsicle molds and freeze until firm, about 3 hours. To remove the pops from the molds, run under warm water to loosen.

2. If you don’t have popsicle molds, divide the liquid between four paper cups. Cover each cup with foil, insert one craft stick through the center of each piece of foil, and freeze.

* We like Minute Maid Enhanced Pomegranate Blueberry juice.
